The acronym “USB” is short for the term Universal Serial Bus, a hardware interface that was developed so that peripheral devices like computer mice, keyboards, printers, digital cameras, scanners, PDA's and MP3 players can be easily connected to PCs. Computer manufacturers first began to replace serial and parallel ports with USB ports in 1997; today, every PC on the market contains at least 4 ports for USB connections. One of the most convenient features of USB cables and devices is their ability to be “hot swapped,” which means that they can be plugged into – and unplugged from – a computer as needed, without that computer needing to be powered down first.USB cables carry power as well as signals. The main objective of these cables is to effectively, quickly and properly gather or transfer data from one device to another.

 

USB Cable Connection are designed with several distinct connector types, making it easy to identify which plug goes into the computer and which plug goes into the peripheral device. USB cable assemblies are designed with several distinct connector types.  Both wired and wireless versions of the USB standard exist, although only the wired version involves USB ports and cables. The most common types (figure 2) you will see are called Type A and Type B, though you may see "mini-B" connectors with either 4 or 5 pins.  The different connector types have an important strategic purpose to them. They are designed so you cannot plug two computers into one another, and you cannot plug two peripheral devices in together. USB Type-C is still quite new, and is yet to be incorporated into most of the devices we use from day to day. Currently, you can only find USB Type-C in Apple Mac Book computers, some Chrome books and other new models of laptop, and some flash drives. It’s also used on the Nintendo Switch games console.
